How AI is speeding up the journey from trial data to new varieties
Every season, our R&D teams collect and analyse large amounts of information from field trials and breeding programmes to identify the most promising genetic combinations. To help our scientists make the most of this information, MAS Seeds is integrating artificial intelligence into its breeding activities.
The challenge: making sense of growing amounts of data
Every year, MAS Seeds generates thousands of data points from breeding and field trials. As breeding programmes become increasingly data-rich, turning this information into useful insights is becoming a challenge in its own right.
Artificial intelligence helps our teams analyse data more quickly, identify relevant patterns and support decision-making. Instead of spending valuable time waiting for analyses, scientists can explore more questions and access results when they are most useful.
This is particularly important in breeding, where timing matters. Decisions such as which candidates to discard create value only when they are made at the right moment. By accelerating analysis, AI helps our teams act earlier and with greater confidence.
AI-powered analysis, scientist-led decisions
Our objective is simple: give scientists faster access to the analyses they need while maintaining the high level of rigour required in plant breeding.
To achieve this, MAS Seeds has integrated an AI-powered bioinformatics platform into its breeding programmes, developed with technology partner Ploid. Scientists describe the analysis they need, the platform performs the work, and the results are returned ready to be reviewed and validated.
AI does not replace scientific expertise. Our scientists remain fully responsible for defining hypotheses, reviewing methods and validating conclusions. Every analysis can be traced, reviewed and reproduced, ensuring the robustness that breeding programmes require.
From faster analysis to future varieties
Faster analysis means more questions can be explored and more genetic material can be evaluated. This helps breeders identify promising trait combinations earlier and make informed decisions sooner about which lines to advance in the programme.
Over time, these gains improve the chances of developing varieties that perform well in the field and respond to the evolving needs of farmers. For farmers and distribution partners, the benefit is clear: better-informed breeding decisions today help deliver well-adapted varieties for tomorrow.
Ploid AI is the exact bioinformatic AI companion that MAS-Seeds scientists needed. It allows efficient and rigorous analysis support, to quickly turn data into breeding insights.

As farming conditions become increasingly unpredictable, we believe plant breeding must anticipate tomorrow's challenges rather than simply respond to today's. By combining genetics, environmental modelling, advanced phenotyping and data science, we develop reliable varieties that help farmers maintain performance in changing conditions.
